is here crossing over 95 from springfield to sell all the way down to fredericksburg. all of it is moving to the eastin to southern maryland. and still ongoing showers and storms northwest of town. most of the rain will be in the morning and then some breaks around lunchtime with a few storms possible this after an evening especially south of washington. but cooler, though. >> " -- george washington parkway is closed at spout run all traffic as the detour at the memorial bridge. >> the latest developments in an officer-involved shooting that happened in mount vernon. we are hearing that two fairfax county police officers used deadly force after they say a man started shooting at them. jummy olabanji joins us live where it all happened. good morning. >> fairfax county police still

remain here on the scene at hours after the shooting. you can see the active investigation. what police say it was sunday night just before 11:30 p.m. when two officers were it in this area of mount vernon when they spotted two suspects that look suspicious. we are told the police approached the two suspects and tried to talk to them when one of the suspects began to run away from police. two officers then began chasing the suspect and one that caught up with him, there was an altercation. >> during the altercation, it appears the suspect is played a handgun and fired shots towards the officers. one of our officers returned fire, striking the suspect. >> when the suspect was taken to -- the suspect was taken to mount vernon hospital, where he later died. we are not told get out many times he may have been shot or who -- or who the suspect is.

police remained on the scene collecting evidence and the waiting for the sun to come up and they are continuing investigating. the two officers involved were not injured. >> some quick moving storm sunday causing extensive damage. one area hit really hard is fredericksburg, virginia. brianne carter has the very latest. >> we are awful fleming street in this area was hardest hit when the storms made their way through yesterday. there is a roof on top of the house, and that comes from this building right over here. there were cheerleaders and sighed when the storm made their way through. >> a frightening day inside the dance studio. >> we were praying to god that we were not going to die. >> the roof ripped off of the walls caved in as the summer story -- storm swept through the area. as the windows blew out, the

and over the atlantic. but also heavy downpours especially around frederick and moving into mount berry, of the 70 corridor, clipping parts of damascus and especially mount airy. light rain montgomery county, moderate showers in parts of the panhandle and west virginia and even parts of the shenandoah valley just north of winchester, some moderate rain pushing eastward right along 50. southern maryland, waldorf, one little downpour -- crossing over 5 and 301. a little right rate -- light rain about fairfax county but basically all the roadways are damp, even if we do not have the ongoing showers at this time. the back edge of the morning rain -- we will see this come to an end the next couple of hours and then a few sunny breaks especially by nec -- lunchtime and after that, if you were storms possible this afternoon

>> straight ahead -- people in virginia got quite a scare after a quick moving storm on sunday. >> we will give you a look at all the damage down there. and we have a live report coming up in just a bit. it is monday, july night. i'm natasha barrett. steve that the morning off. >> and cynne simpson. glad you are joining us. we will start with traffic and weather -- first, a meteorologist adam caskey. along with the rain lender? >> all week long we will have often on showers and thunderstorms. some days more rain than other days. but we have a daily chance for at least a little bit of rain and a few thunderstorms here and there but a majority of the showers came overnight. even this morning, steady rain. especially frederick county, virginia. moderate to heavy rain, pushing

eastward. moderate rain along 270 and pushing eastward also into the 70 court in howard county. we had light rain overnight as well so damp road even where you did not have ongoing showers. in the 70's and on the way to 87. four days in a row at or above 100 degrees. facts in the 80's this week. doug hill will be back to talk about the storm chances in a little bit. >> i am going to talk about the george washington parkway which i have been this entire program because of a tree that came down earlier this morning. over an hour they have been working to cut it up. northbound spout run -- traffic has to be tore at the memorial bridge. if we look at the cameras 270 earlier, there was road spray and raining -- now it looks much better. stick around for adam caskey and doug hill with more on the weather because it affects the traffic. now we go to news.

>> thanks, lisa. fairfax police continue to investigate following a deadly officer-involved shooting overnight. jummy olabanji of our lives in mount vernon joining us with the details of what happened. >> according to fairfax county police, it was just before 11:30 p.m. last night when two of the officers were in this area and say they noticed two men who were acting suspiciously. we are told the officers approached of the two men and that some of the during the conversation one of the men ran away. the two officers began chasing the suspect and that some point there was an altercation in and police say the suspect pulled out a handgun and began firing shots at police. police spokesman said officers then fired back and one of the officers struck the victim. he was taken to mount vernon hospital where he died a short time later. police say they are still looking for the second suspect. >> if anybody has the situation

on the incident itself or the second suspect call either crime solvers of the police non- emergency number. >> police are out here investigating, -- all waiting to collect additional pieces of evidence. so far they have not release the identity of the suspect was killed but they do say officers involved in the shooting were not injured. >> just after the power came back on from last week that a derecho, another storm came in and knocked out power and caused more damage. brianne carter is live from one of the areas hardest hit fredericksburg. >> adjust heat near rte. 1 in fredericksburg -- just near route 1 in fredericksburg.
